Spaces For You - Workshops and Onward
Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition Community Workshop
Spaces For You is a collaborative and proactive initiative by the City of Boston to co-create, enhance, and celebrate public outdoor spaces that foster joy, belonging, and well-being for all residents. The project seeks to bridge the gap between community needs and city resources, knitting together public and privately generated open spaces to create vibrant social places for all.
LivableStreets is leading the community engagement efforts for this City of Boston project, gathering crucial resident feedback. We have been doing this in the form of community workshops and tabling. Recently, we tabled with the Esplanade Association along the Charles River, attended the Allston Brighton Community Plan: Improving Access to Green Space Sketch Session at the City Hall, and held an intimate community workshop with Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition. These ongoing workshops are instrumental in our efforts to provide more equitable access to beautiful open spaces. Stay tuned for more updates on our community workshops.
If you are passionate about public places and want to be a part of shaping the future of open spaces in your neighborhood, fill out this survey. We would love to hear from you!

Greenway Adventures: Neponset Edition
This month, LivableStreets Alliance hosted the quarterly Greenways Coalition Meeting with a beautiful group ride along the Neponset River Greenway, led by Suzanne from the Neponset River Watershed Association. We kicked things off with a quick stop at Edgewater Drive to see the latest DCR improvements, then biked to Mattapan Square to begin our greenway journey. Along the way, Stella Lensing from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation shared insights into the trail’s history and exciting plans for its future, as we explored the northern extension together.
It was inspiring to come together as a community, learning about the progress toward a more connected and accessible greenway network. We wrapped up the day with bánh mì and great conversation in Fields Corner, the perfect finish to a day on the trails.

All Aboard to Blue Hills!
On September 6th, we joined advocates, the MPO staff, and community partners to hop aboard the brand-new 716 bus pilot from Mattapan Station to Houghton’s Pond. This new route is the result of years of advocacy for better access to the Blue Hills, and now, it’s easier than ever for everyone to enjoy swimming, hiking, biking, and exploring this urban oasis. Efforts like these show how advocacy and collaboration can expand access to nature and sustainable transportation for all
The pilot runs Saturdays through October 11, every 90 minutes from 8 AM to 8 PM, connecting Cobbs Corner in Canton to Mattapan Station with links to the Mattapan Line.
Don’t miss your chance to ride, relax, and recharge at Houghton’s Pond. Your weekend adventure awaits!

Advocating for Transportation Equity at the State House
On September 16th, LivableStreets Alliance testified at the State House in support of two key transportation bills during the Joint Committee on Transportation hearing.
The first one, the Freedom to Move Act (H.3726), expands affordable transportation choices like transit, biking, and walking while also addressing our climate goals.
The second one is Fare-Free Buses (H.3623), which requires the MBTA and all Regional Transit Authorities to launch at least a one-year fare-free bus pilot by 2026, prioritizing high-ridership and equity-focused routes with strong community oversight.
We were proud to stand alongside our partners, advocating for a more accessible, sustainable, and equitable transportation system, one where everyone can move freely and affordably across the Commonwealth.
