Road safety improvements under the microscope in City of Boston

a bus lane, painted red with the words \

Last week a group of advocates, including LivableStreets, sent a letter to Mayor Wu expressing concern over the city’s recent decision to review past safe streets infrastructure changes and to pause ongoing projects, including the removal of the Boylston Street bus lane. (For more details, read this StreetsblogMass article). Our letter emphasized the important safety improvements implemented by city staff and urged the Mayor to continue prioritizing progress rather than reversing previous efforts.

The Boston Cyclists Union is currently organizing a “Thank You” campaign—asking individuals like you to thank city staff for all their hard work. You can send your own message here! And TransitMatters is also organizing an email campaign for users of the Boylston St Bus Lane to push back on it's removal.

The City of Boston is seeking artists to create street murals at three intersections along Columbia Road as part of their Columbia Road Transportation Action Plan. If you are a Boston based mural artist, check out this opportunity and consider applying by March 14.

LivableStreets Staff Retreat 2k25

the livablestreets team gather on the far side of a round wooden table, looking at the camera and smiling. there are assorted food and drinks visible on the table

As we do every February, the LivableStreets team came together for our beginning of the year staff retreat. The LivableStreets team spent an afternoon playing games at Tavern of Tales, a local board game cafe/bar three blocks from the Roxbury Crossing stop. Makayla C emerged as our undisputed Uno champion.

The next day we returned to our Cambridge office for our annual staff retreat. Fueled by delicious local food, we jumped feet first into LivableStreets' strategic planning process. You'll hear more about this later in the year!
