Two Communities and a River: The Story of the Neponset Greenway Extension

This will be an interactive community storytelling event guided by True Story Theater.

ALL ARE WELCOME!

We want to hear your story about the Neponset River Greenway Extension, a 1.3-mile pedestrian and bicycle path connecting Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan to Central Avenue in Milton. Although this section of the Greenway was first proposed over 20 years ago as part of a 7 mile off-road path, it was delayed by opposition from Milton abutters. Pressure from community activists in Mattapan and elsewhere influenced the state to redesign the route and start construction in 2014. The trail was finished in 2017 and is being opened officially this year.

When did you first hear about the path? What happened in your neighborhood to support or oppose the Greenway Extension? What has the completion of the path meant to you and your neighbors?

Come prepared to share your story in community with the help of the gifted True Story Theater players!

The Mattapan Milton Neponset Community (MMNC) gathers as neighbors along the Neponset River to explore how to make the Greenway Trail Extension an opportunity to forge stronger relationships among residents of Mattapan and Milton based on mutual respect, understanding, and a common love of the beautiful river and greenway we share. Our long term goals are understanding, confronting, and eliminating structural racism and other forces that divide and dis-empower our Neponset Valley communities.
