Whittier Bridge Public Hearing

Thursday, June 21st - 6:30pm
@ Amesbury High School, Auditorium, 5 Highland Street, Amesbury [map]

The purpose of this meeting is to seek public comment on the 25% Design for the proposed project, which includes the replacement of the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge over the Merrimack River along with replacement or reconstruction of four adjacent bridges along I-95 in Newburyport and Amesbury and widening I-95 between Exit 57 in Newburyport and Exit 60 in Salisbury.

The project also includes the Whittier Trail: the first shared-use path to be constructed along a Massachusetts interstate.

The Whittier Bridge/I-95 Improvement Project was selected by the Obama Administration for expedited permitting and environmental review. It is one of MassDOT's largest projects as part of the Patrick-Murray Administration's Accelerated Bridge Program.

Written views received by MassDOT up to five days prior to the date of the hearing will be displayed for public inspection and copying. Plans will be on display one-half hour before the hearing begins, with an engineer in attendance to answer questions regarding this project. A project handout will be made available on the MassDOT Whittier Bridge project website.

Written statements and other exhibits may be submitted to Thomas F. Broderick, P.E., Chief Engineer, MassDOT, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, MA 02116, Attention.: Accelerated Bridge Program, Project File No. 601096. Project inquiries may be emailed.
