In planning and urban design, the principles established by Jane Jacobs nearly a half-century ago are uniformly embraced today, including the importance of citizen participation. Yet Robert Moses had an understanding of the central role of infrastructure, and a vision for urban redevelopment, that is equally relevant in 2010. Anthony Flint, author of Wrestling with Moses: How Jane Jacobs Took on New York's Master Builder and Transformed the American City (Random House), former journalist at The Boston Globe and now at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, will address how this remarkable story holds lessons for the 21st century city.
