Changes to Red Line Service: MBTA Community Meeting

Wednesday, November 2nd - 6:00-8:00pm
@ Somerville Armory, 191 Highland Avenue, Somerville [map]

AGENDA: MBTA project team will discuss temporary changes in service and ongoing construction on the Red Line, Harvard / Alewife Station.

Explanation of the Bus Replacement Service from the MBTA:

The MBTA will run a weekend bus replacement shuttle from Harvard Sq Station upper busway to Alewife Station, servicing Porter Sq and Davis Sq Stations. We will run this service every weekend from November 5, 2011 until approximately March 17, 2012. The purpose of this shuttle is to make necessary repairs to the floating slabs that the rails are secured to as well as address other issues within the subway tunnel. We will not run a shuttle on Christmas weekend or New year’s Weekend, the regular Red Line train Service will run on those weekends.

The shuttle route will travel from Harvard Station, up Massachusetts Ave, stop at Porter Sq Station, continue on Mass Ave, take a right on Beech, a left on Elm, a right on Cutter, left on Highland Ave, right Grove, left into Davis Sq busway stopping for Davis Sq, left college, right Holland, left Broadway, left Alewife Brook Parkway, left Cambridge Park Dr and into Alewife Station. We will reverse this route on the inbound trip to Harvard Station, stopping on Holland St for Davis Sq Station and then on towards Harvard.

In Harvard Sq our buses will use meter and street space on Bennett St and University Rd. We will request police details from Cambridge PD and Transit PD to assist with traffic at Bennett St/Bennett Alley and Bennett St/University Rd. We will also have our officials stationed on University Rd and in Bennett Alley to help control the flow of our buses and monitor for idling of the bus engines.

If you have a disability and need an accommodation to fully participate in the meeting, American Sign Language interpreters, assistive listening devices, handouts in alternate formats, etc. will be provided upon request. Please contact Donny Dailey at 617-973-7638 or email.
