Accelerated Bridge Program

Governor Patrick signing bill establishing Accelerated Bridge Program

About the Accelerated Bridge Program
In August 2008, a bill was signed into law establishing the Accelerated Bridge Program, a multi-year effort to repair and rehabilitate structurally deficient bridge across the state. MassDOT is tasked with carrying out the program, and has announced which bridges will be repaired over the next few years. LivableStreets is interested in ensuring that along with structural repairs, improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and overall safety are made as part of each project. LivableStreets feels that each bridge project should allow for meaningful input from the public, advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders, to ensure that the designs make the best use of money and resources to make improvements for all modes.

Charles River Basin Bridges Campaign
LivableStreets launched a campaign focusing on the Charles River Basin Bridges, most of which will be reconstructed over the next 8 years. We are working with MassDOT, other advocates, and the public to ensure that these bridges meet the needs of today and tomorrow.

Other Metro-Boston Bridges
LivableStreets has also advocated for better multi-modal designs for some other Metro-Boston bridges that are part of the Accelerated Bridge Program.
