News Flash: DCR Commissioner Stephen Burrington resigns

LETTER FROM COMMISSIONER BURRINGTON TO HIS STAFF
(An official press release is not yet available online, and the DCR press office is not answering calls.)

January 4, 2006

Today will be my last day at DCR. Massachusetts has a promising new Governor, and he will be looking for a new commissioner to lead DCR through the next stage of its progress.

I cannot imagine a better way to have spent the last sixteen months than as DCR Commissioner. The number of talented, committed, incredibly hard- working people in this agency is astonishing. You are the reason DCR has made such remarkable progress on so many fronts during the time I have been here. The foundation you've laid will serve you and the public well as you move on to new accomplishments. You have a new really devoted fan out there. I'll watch for ways to help.

On behalf of the LivableStreets Alliance, I would like to thank Commissioner Burrington for the integrity and enthusiasm for the true mission DCR - "It's Your Nature"-- he has demonstrated. It has been an absolute pleasure working closely with him over the past few years. He has demonstrated the value of truly collaborative and effective government - community partnerships. We wish him the very best. He will be missed by many.
