DCR Public Meeting on BU and Craigie Bridges
ATTENTION! Your voice needed!
DCR Public Meeting on BU Bridge and Craigie Bridges (Museum of Science)
Tuesday, Jan 27, from 6-8 p.m.
MIT, Kirsch Auditorium, Stata Center, 32 Vassar Street
What's happening?
While the DCR has said they want to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian needs, there are worrisome suggestions that the plans they will propose will be significantly inadequate.
Public input is vital on these two bridge, and future bridges! Major improvements to these bridges will not happen again for decades, so LivableStreets and other advocates are working hard to improve the user structure of the bridges to increase safety and efficiency for all users. Come to this meeting and show your support for better pedestrian, bicycling and public transit facilities.
What does the BU bridge need?
· On street bicycle lanes
· Provide bike lanes during construction
· Improve the intersections at either end of the bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists
· Improve the bridge approaches for pedestrians and bicyclists
· Hire a bicycle and pedestrian design consultant for all bridges
· Improve lighting on the bridge during and after construction
· Improve overall safety during sidewalk and full construction
· Create a connection directly to the Charles River path and parklands from the Boston side of the bridge
What do the Craigie bridges need?
· 9' – 10' travel lanes and dedicate the available right-of-way to bicyclists and pedestrians
· Provide separated cycle tracks, or striped bike lanes in both directions.
· Add a traffic light at the point in front of the museum where the future inlet bridge will be built and coordinate all the traffic lights to facilitate throughput.
· Redesign the museum entrances and exits.
· Work with the City of Boston to put bike lanes through Leverett Circle and along Martha Road.
