The Open House is an opportunity for the MPO staff to update the public and receive
feedback on the work being conducted by the MPO. The Open House will include presentations on the following topics:

• Draft Unified Planning Work Program
• MetroFuture results and implementation plan
• Updates on the 2010–2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and JOURNEY TO 2030 Transportation Plan Amendment
• Upgrades to the Boston Region MPO’s travel demand model

A highlight of the Open House will be a presentation about new and ongoing studies
to be conducted by the MPO’s staff during the upcoming federal fiscal year (FFY). These
studies are included in the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), which is an annual
document that programs transportation planning projects to be conducted within the
Boston metropolitan region during a given federal fiscal year. The Boston Region MPO
has released the draft FFY 2010 UPWP for a 30-day public-review and comment period
beginning July 6 and ending August 4.

Descriptions of the presentations and a schedule are below:

* 12:00 PM and 5:30 PM: The Draft Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2010 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP). The UPWP describes surface transportation planning studies and projects within the MPO region proposed for the upcoming federal fiscal year, which begins October 1, 2009.

* 12:30 PM and 6 PM: The Results and Implementation Plan of MetroFuture. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council led the development of MetroFuture, which is a regional smart-growth plan for the Boston metropolitan region.

* 1 PM and 6:30 PM: An Update on the Development of Two MPO Planning Documents: the FFYs 2010-2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Amendment to the Regional Transportation Plan, JOURNEY TO 2030. Through the TIP, the MPO programs funding for highway and transit projects over a four-year period. JOURNEY TO 2030, with a 20-year time frame, is the comprehensive transportation planning document of the Boston Region MPO.

* 1:30 PM and 7 PM: Upgrades to the MPO’s Travel Model. The travel model is an important tool that underlies much of the MPO’s work. The model captures people’s daily commuting habits by predicting the number of trips made daily in the region, where those trips will go, the distribution of those trips by route, and the number of trips made by each transportation mode. Plans for upgrading the model, with an emphasis on efforts to integrate it with a land use allocation model, will be discussed at the Open House.
