The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is pleased to present the schematic design for the proposed Esplanade Riverfront Pavilion at this third and final public meeting on this project. The public is invited to view the plans between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., when the formal meeting will begin.
DCR, its partners, and stakeholders have worked through a nine-month planning process to develop a design concept for a new, multi-purpose pavilion in the area of the Lee Pool. Built in 1951, the Lee Pool has been closed since the 1990s, and the property is now used by DCR park operations staff and by DCR partners the Esplanade Association and Hill House. DCR hired a project team led by Maryann Thompson Architects, who have examined the existing buildings and site and developed conceptual design alternatives, from which the preferred alternative was selected and advanced into schematic design drawings. This effort has been informed by a robust public process, involving the community, DCR partners, area stakeholders, and user groups.
At this public meeting, DCR will present the final schematic design for the Esplanade Riverfront Pavilion and the surrounding landscape, as well as three reuse concepts for the Upper Locks Gatehouse.
